Character Name: Miku Hatsune.
Genderswap? No.
Character Series: Vocaloid -- based on the Project Diva games, specifically.
Character Age: Sixteen.
Campus Position: Scholarship student. Got the scholarship thanks to her musical talent, if possible.
Canon Background: There's really not a lot to go off of here; normal highschool student who really likes singing, hears of a 'battle of the bands' sort of contest, gathers up every person she can spot with a semblance of musical talent, forms a band, presumably kicks ass, everybody in the band becomes friends for life and also there's some schoolgirl lesbian subtext.
AU Background: Her canon, being as slight as it is, doesn't really need any core elements changed. It definitely needs some expanding upon, though, so I'll do just that.
Miku's life has always been average. As the only child of a middle-class family, made up of a pastry chef father, a small-time lawyer mother and herself, she was never denied anything, but never really asked for much, either. She always got along well with the other kids in school, maintaining a small number of close friends while never becoming outstandingly popular; her grades always averaged out at okay, but she was never at the top of her class, nor was she at the bottom. Though she might stand out a bit due to her long, bright-colored hair and energetic demeanor, in just about every respect, she is perfectly average.
Every respect, except for music.
Her love for music began at a very early age-- her absolute favorite toy as a child was her crocodile xylophone, her favorite lesson in school has always been music, and she's been singing for as long as she can remember herself. While obviously gifted in that department, she never took any classes beyond what her school offered, not wanting to burden her parents with the costs, and settled for learning off the internet. She can play both the piano and the guitar on a pretty decent level-- nothing mindblowing just yet, but enough to accompany her while she sings. But of course, she's always learning, and always aspiring to get better!
Miku's dream since she was a child is to become an idol in Japan, where her parents used to live before they married and moved to America. She was never unhappy with her life-- the opposite, really-- but even still, she can't help seeking out something bigger, brighter and more colorful than her plain everyday routine. Her parents, while loving and supportive as a whole, don't outright try to discourage her from pursuing that goal, they do repeatedly warn her that it might not be the most stable of career choices. Miku understands this, and it's why she's opting to finish her highschool education before having a go at it. She heard about Achtenberg from a classmate during some idle recess chatter and, thinking it sounded like an awesome departure from her daily life up until now, decided to try out for a scholarship. Even she couldn't manage to be all that optimistic about her getting in, because the school seemed so much more high-class than she is-- so when it turned out she did, her happiness shot through the roof. She is very excited about attending!
Personality: Miku is a very cheerful, energetic girl. Being amicable is her default mode, and so she's quick to make friends with others, though some might find her demeanor slightly tiring. She is innocent, seemingly to the point of naivete, even -- she always assumes the best of everyone, and holds on to that assumption until proven otherwise. She trusts in people easily and gets attached rather quickly -- if they respond positively to her, that is. On the other hand, if a person seems needlessly hostile and unpleasant, she'd take a stand against them and retain it until given a reason not to. She's very much a first impressions kind of girl, and tends to see things in black and white, though she's also quick to forgive and sympathize. So if, for example, you were being unjustly mean to her, she'd indefinitely peg you as "that one jerk", unless at some point in the future you apologize and explain to her that you were simply worried about your sick puppy at the time, in which case she'd immediately forget any poor impression she had of you. She's not much of a grudge-bearer.
Though upbeat and optimistic, she isn't ridiculously so. You might not be able to tell at a glance, but she is fairly down to earth and aware of her own limitations and shortcomings. She does, however, believe that if you want something badly enough and truly dedicate yourself to it, you will get it in the end. She knows becoming an idol will be no easy task, but she's fully determined to at the very least try her best. And when Miku really puts her mind to something, you're going to have a hard time stopping her. She has the ability to kick-start her brain into hyper-determination-and-optimism mode, effectively turning herself into a small cyan hurricane of energy and bright-eyed eagerness. In that mode, she is at least five times more likely to spew cliche'd motivational phrases such as 'you can do anything as long as you put our mind to it!' and 'our limits are only in our MIND!', even if she wouldn't entirely back those things up in her normal state. It's her way of getting herself and those around her worked up.
While music is her passion and she's perfectly willing to dedicate all of herself to it, she is not nearly as devoted to the other aspects of her school life. While she normally manages to scrape by with decent enough grades, there are certain subjects-- namely science and math-- that she's downright unable to wrap her head around. Since she doesn't feel nearly the same obligation to those things, she's a lot more prone to giving up, and to spend the time she's supposed to be studying sulking and moping around because she just can't do it, it's impooooossible. Her driven attitude doesn't apply to everything, and even her seemingly-permanent cheerfulness can crack; though, in times of real emotional distress, she'd do her best to put a smile on and act like nothing's going on. (How good she actually is at it, though, is a different matter altogether.) She just doesn't want to be a burden to anyone.
At nearly all other times, though, Miku places great importance on being honest with others as well as herself -- possibly because she doesn't seem to possess the ability not to be. While she more-or-less seems to be capable of basic tact, as in that she knows better than to say things she can tell are obviously offensive, she can be very blunt and very loud, and suffers from a severely malfunctioning brain-to-mouth filter. She is very easily enthused and equally easy to impress-- since she comes from a pretty simple background and doesn't think notably highly of herself, people who are especially pretty, talented or smart never fail to catch her attention and draw cries of excitement from her, even if others fail to see why it's a big deal. Generally, she tends to blurt out the first thing that's on her mind, even if it's inappropriate or rude, which she usually only realizes after the fact. She always apologizes, though-- even with her bluntness, she has good manners.
Despite her resolve to remain true to herself, it's also very important for Miku to be liked. Though she'd never let it show if she can help it, she craves attention, and her worst fear is to be left on her own. Part of why she dreams of becoming an idol is that she wants to draw people to her, to be the sort of person that others immediately take a liking to. At the same time, she's very aware of her faults-- so when she says something that's out of place, or messes something up, she'll apologize profusely and make every effort to make up for the damage she's caused. Though she has confidence in the things she's good at (music and, well, music), her overall self-esteem is on the lower side of average, and so she's also very humble. She might at times look like she can't be fazed, but it really doesn't take much to fluster her, and flattery is one of the quickest ways to achieve that.
Miku is very straightforward, and automatically expects the same from others, too, so things such as sarcasm tend to completely go over her head. She wears her heart on her sleeve, even though, as noted, she attempts to bottle up her negative feelings. This can cause her to appear ditzy and even kind of dense-- and, okay, maybe that's not entirely untrue, but she does have a surprising amount of emotional maturity. She can tell when a situation is serious, and adapt her behavior accordingly. Even if she might look like she doesn't have a care in the world, she can understand people who are going through difficult times, or even if she can't, she'll at the very least try her darndest to. Her friends are incredibly dear to her, and she will do everything to comfort them when they need it, and is always willing to serve as a shoulder to cry on.

What is going to be your next adventure? Or, what was your last adventure?
Oh, that's an easy one! For my next adventure, I'm going to go to Japan and become an idol! Or... try to, anyway, hehe. I know it won't be easy, but I've been practicing my singing all this time, and my dancing, too! Even if I'm a little clumsy...
I've always, always loved music, and I've dreamed of being an idol since I was little, so I've got to at least give it a go. I'd like to be part of a group, I think. But not one of the really huge ones, since those can get a little hard to keep track of! But I think it could be fun if it was me and, um, five other people, maybe? We could practice together and write our music together and have big live shows in front of a crowd together! Aah, it could be so amazing... I've got to do my best!
You are walking alone at night when you notice a strange man following you. What do you do?
E-eh? Strange how? You mean his face? My parents always told me it's wrong to judge people by appearance! And, I mean, what if we just happen to be walking in the same direction? What if his house is just nearby? I shouldn't just assume he's following me because he's walking behind me and has kind of a weird face, right? On the other hand, my parents always told me that if I got approached by a scary man when I was alone, I should knee him in the crotch while screaming for help really loudly and then running away. So if he gets any closer in a menacing sort of way, I'll do that!
You are granted the power to change one thing about the world. What do you change?
I'll make everybody happy! ... is that I'd like to say, but I guess it wouldn't be that simple... even if I have the power to change any one thing I wanted, I'm not sure making everybody happy would count as just one thing, because there are so many things that people depend on in order to be happy. There's diseases, poverty, natural disasters, cruel-hearted people, loneliness, death... If I had to pick one of those to do away with, I think it'd be poverty, because it seems like the most practical one. But, on the other hand, I think not being lonely is one of the most important things in the world, and even if you don't have a lot, as long as you have people who care about you, you can be happy... hmnmm... Ah, I just don't know, this is hard!
